My name is Willemijn Ellen de Bruin

I am an independent consultant working in the international development sector offering monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL), research, and project management services to international and national NGOs, local civil society organisations, and donors of development programmes. Through my work I aim to help improve a wide variety of projects and initiatives focused on sustainable development, alleviating poverty and addressing inequalities in the world.

Based on my personal experience of suffering a postpartum psychosis, a severe mental illness with acute onset after birth, I am also a passionate advocate for improved maternal mental healthcare.

Services

My work can broadly be divided in four categories although they overlap in many assignments:

My MEL services include a wide variety of approaches such as setting objectives and indicators, the establishment and use of logical frameworks, the development of theories of change, outcome harvesting and outcome mapping. I try to embed practical and participatory approaches to MEL, and really value action based learning.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL)

I hold an MSc in International Public Health and have worked as an academic for several years. My research skills include literature reviews, and a variety of both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methods in the field of public health and international development. My goal is to translate research findings into accessible language and digestible outputs.

Research

I have worked as project coordinator for various multi-million, multi-country development projects, as well as on academic research projects. This includes activities such as proposal writing, stakeholder management, budget tracking and reporting, data management, donor reporting, and the coordination of meetings, workshops and webinars.

Project Management

By sharing my lived experience of suffering postpartum psychosis after the birth of my firstborn in 2021, I am determined to raise awareness on this mental illness, reduce stigma related to mental health issues and advocate for improved maternal mental healthcare globally. I am available for public speaking (in person and online), writing, and other forms of story telling both to the general public and experts. Pro-bono work will certainly be considered.
